Feedback from 'Running Empty'

A site for hurting people

The Running on Empty site appears to have touched some non-Christians. The primary evidence that I have for this is heart-rending emails telling of miserable lives, cries for help," says Christina Burbeck. She shares some recent emails received:

"I simply felt bored with life, dissatisfied with myself. I knew that the problems are in me, I finally accept that fully. The words of the site area called 'Loving and being loved' touched me in a profound way. I cried a bit. Then it hit me. For the first time, I felt what all those people have told me over the years. I think I also know why I have felt empty and so alone most of my life. The absence of God and Jesus."

"There are so many things in life I have inside of me, that I cannot relate to anyone and it breaks my heart."

"When I was a kid at 6 weeks, my mum died so I never knew her and I feel sometimes that I never had a proper chance in life."

"I was lucky enough to have found your website and I'm interested in more information about having a close relationship with God. I want to know more. Can you help?

"I am a psychologist in the .... area and I'm trying to set up a website. One of my areas of treatment deals with issues of self-esteem, and while searching for information to put on my site, I came across your page. I absolutely LOVE what you have written, and agree with it wholeheartedly. I was wondering if I could encorporate your wording into my webpage."

"I would like to express my gratitude for the effort that has been put into this website. It has helped me a great deal in clarifying my views on God and where he fits into my life. No preaching, sales talk or forcing religion on people, just common sense and sensitivity. I really appreciate it, thankyou very much indeed."

"Your site has inspired me, at a critical moment in my life, to truly seek God. There is a humble selfless spirit in your site that really shines through. It cuts through everything like a knife."

"For some time now I have felt God calling me to preach messages that resonate deeply with the lost... What God has been impressing on me over the past two years is that us preachers know how to speak churchese very well and get a lot of amens doing that. What I've not seen in that preaching is a message that someone totally unchurched understands. This is as much if not more of a learning process for me as for my audience."

"I read your articles and I have been inspired by them.In fact it has helped me understand many confusing questions I continuously ask GOD and myself. Although I am still learning I am becoming more and more connected to GOD and understanding who, what I am and my purpose for being on this earth."

"One of our goals is to provide a comprehensive database of resources for mental health professionals working with at-risk youth and emotionally disturbed children. We recently updated our database and wanted to let you know that we've placed a link to your site."

"Wow! What a pleasant surprise! I love the way you articulate the faith in an easily-accessible language. The way the pages link together is amazing, like being led on a journey. I've been praying for months now that the Lord would give the posters on Psycho-Babble Faith a hunger for the One True God, and that He would make them restless until they found their rest in Jesus Christ. Perhaps the link to your site is one answer to my prayers! I hope & pray that many of the posters will indeed check out your site & will feel compelled to read and re-read what you've so eloquently written!"

"I am just writing to say thank you. Today, I was really struggling. Stuggling with life. With death. With God and with myself. I prayed and searched and found your website. I cried as I read everything I could. I was so afraid of finding nothing, but found something. Something that I couldn't have lived with out. By the end of reading all that was posted on your website, I was no longer crying. I was smiling. Because I finally realized that my prayer had been answered. I was looking for answers... and I found them. Thank you so very much. I owe you more than I could ever begin to explain. I know I will keep on searching for answers. There are infinite questions in the quest for Christ. But at 18 years old, I think I have made good start."

"All I wanted to say is thank you. Your site has helped me see. I can now begin my journey to self-discovery, happiness, and forgiveness."
