Best fonts to use

If you do not specify a font for your body text, most users it wil see it display in default browser serif font such as Times New Roman. But sans-serif fonts are 20% faster to read from a computer monitor – they have a cleaner uncluttered appearance. To see this demonstrated, change the fonts on this page: verdana | helvetica | arial | default sans-serif | default serif | times new roman. (Your computer may not have all these fonts installed and not all browsers will display the one-click font-changes on this page. )

Verdana is designed to be readable on a monitor. There can be compatibility problems across different platforms. However, Verdana is used on this site. A recommended font string to place in your page body, or (much easier) in a style sheet for the page or entire site:
verdana,helvetica,sans-serif,arial

'Reversed-out' print – i.e. pale text on a dark background – is hard to read, and should not be used except for headings or short blocks of text. Test this at our color page where you can change font and background colors.
