Other religions - the big differences

"The best way to show that a stick is crooked is not to argue about it or to spend time denouncing it, but to lay a straight stick alongside it."
D. L. Moody

"When you shoot an arrow of truth, dip its point in honey."
Arab proverb

We need to understand the big differences between biblical Christianity and every other religion (including apparently 'Christian' cults):

So we can see that all other religions are 'self-effort' - people struggling to do the best they can with their own strength. Of course, there are true and commendable things in other religions such as their teachings on standards of human behaviour. We can agree with these things and find common ground for our discussions. Other religions do not offer an inner power to fulfil such requirements. In this sense, the Gospel is the true fulfilment of the aspirations and hopes of other beliefs, and can be presented in this positive light, rather than "you are wrong, we are right". This is in no way to condone religious pluralism.

Learn more about other religions at World Religion Index and see CARM for what cults believe.

The unique aspects of Christianity are:

Few people, in the West or elsewhere, have any grasp of these issues.

Sensitivity to other religions

Understanding modern thinking and other religions

The 'worldview' in the West today and many other cultures is secular postmodernism which does not believe in absolute values. Alongside it, the dominant religious viewpoint is New Age. We need to understand these if we are to communicate with people around us.
